  The NEW ANGEL CLUB is a New Mexico Angels program designed for people ready to make a positive impact on the NM economy through their "3T's": time, treasure, and talent.

  
  

  For the third year, New Mexico Angels leads an eight-week training on Angel-dom and Startup Investing! We are recruiting our 2024 cohort!

  Who is this for?

  Our New Angel Club is designed for private investors. Those new to angel activity and old hands are both invited to this interactive, action-oriented program. In New Mexico, Angels are a key driver of economic growth.

  What will we learn?

  Over the course of eight weeks, we cover nuts and bolts of evaluating start-up companies. We develop the checklist for making critical path angel investment decisions. In collaborative sessions, we highlight real-life New Mexico case studies - presentations from experienced investors and entrepreneurs currently raising. Our goal is to cultivate a community of interest and action for Angel Investments. Each 1 hour session features a short teaching and then a guest speaker.

  When and where do we meet?

  • Weekly on Wednesdays from 4pm MT, March 6-May 2
  • Hybrid event: Join virtually on Zoom or in-person (location TBD)

  First two sessions are free! 6 paid sessions start March 20th

  You are invited to attend the final round of the New Mexico Advanced Energy Award competition at the Lobo Rainforest Building on Friday, May 3, 2024 at 9:00 a.m. to hear finalists pitch.

  The New Mexico Advanced Energy Award Pilot Program is a competitive state-funded grant that awards non-dilutive funds to proposals in advanced energy innovation and commercialization from New Mexico small businesses engaged in research and development. The funds seek to assist early-stage companies developing a unique product with strong growth potential. Selected proposals will be awarded between $250,000 and $1,000,000 in funds. Funding will be awarded on a cost reimbursement basis.

  Through this award, the New Mexico Economic Development Department ultimately seeks to support the retention or expansion of economic-base businesses; the creation of jobs in economic-base businesses; the development of the tax base; and business development.

  Background

  New Mexico statistics regularly come in near the bottom. Business is a powerful driver for economic betterment. With the small population we have, each and every growing local business makes a quantifiable difference to our people and economy. 

  State statute allows for our State Investment Council (NM SIC) to invest up to 11% of its holdings into economic development. Today, that would be more than $7 billion. Most investors and economic professionals would agree there is no way for the current business eco-system to absorb that level of investment. 

  What would be needed to put us on a trajectory for that? 

  Meeting PURPOSE is to connect and organize ecosystem players to make investing into NM startup and growth companies easier, faster and larger. 

  The GOAL is to leverage resources to inject an additional $100+ million into the NM startup / growth ecosystem this decade - beyond what is currently available. 

  Meet our facilitator, Andrew Cohen: Andrew is a counselor and consultant for leaders and teams, now based in Northern New Mexico. He has been helping improve clarity, resolution and alignment as a group facilitator and executive coach for over 25 years.
